Final Weekend of "Mousetrap" Is Here
Published on: March 7, 2013
Winder-Barrow Community Theatre’s first 2013 Main Stage Season show will close this weekend with “Mousetrap” by Agatha Christie . A part of the proceeds from this show will be donated to the Food2Kids Program in Barrow County as WBCT continues their “give back” program to local nonprofit groups. Food2Kids is a program that was started in 2008 to provide food over the weekends to students who had little or no food at home and were coming to school very hungry on Mondays. The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Barrow County Schools work together to help provide this service. Over 150 students are currently in the program, and they receive 7 to 10 pounds of kid-friendly, healthy food in a backpack each Friday. This food hopefully will get them through the weekend. Barrow County also has 55 students on a waiting list for the program so sponsors are desperately needed.
Sponsoring a child for the school year costs $260.00, but a donation of any amount is much appreciated and is tax deductible. Checks should be made out to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and designated for Barrow County Food2Kids. For more information about this program and how you can help, please contact Shannon Derrick at 770-867-4527 or e-mail her at Shannon.derrick@barrow.k12.ga.us. She is the contact person with the Barrow County Schools. River Hills Church members house and package the individual food bags each week for the Barrow County School System counselors and social workers to pick up and distribute to the students.
Help WBCT provide food for hungry children by bringing your donation to the show or by sending a check to the Food Bank. At each production of “Mousetrap” there will be a donation jar available to put in your donation. Tickets are now available at Winder City Hall (770-867-3106) or at Pam Veader’s State Farm Insurance Office (770-867-1679). Don’t miss the chance to see a great play and to help hungry children at the same time.
